Last week, we hosted our annual Health & Safety Day on site and this year we decided to shake things up.

Instead of long presentations, we focused on practical, hands-on activities to make risks more real and tangible for everyone, operatives and managers alike.
After a short intro to reflect on the past year and set the tone, we split into groups and rotated through three interactive sessions:

Objects falling from height
A simple test, but a striking one: a brick dropped from height onto a watermelon.
Without protection, total destruction. But with a helmet? The difference was clear.
A powerful reminder of why head protection and exclusion zones are non-negotiable.

Glass handling & storage risks
We simulated the fall of a glass panel from an A-frame to highlight how underestimated vertical storage risks can be and how dangerous vertical storage can be

Manual work & injury awareness
A practical challenge with hammers and nails… then repeated with restricted fingers.
It quickly showed how even a minor injury can significantly impact your ability to work safely, linking directly to correct tool use, including grinders.

We wrapped up the day with food, discussions and open feedback and the response from teams and subcontractors was extremely positive!

People tend to remember what they experience rather than what they are told.
A real team effort and a strong reminder that safety is not just a set of rules, it is something we live on site every day.
